Konijnendijk’s 3–30–300 rule is less important as a fixed numerical prescription than as an epistemic translation device. It condenses heterogeneous evidence about visibility, canopy, proximity, health and climate adaptation into three spatial thresholds legible to municipal planning. The work therefore occupies the difficult boundary between scientific complexity and administrative action. Its methodological operation is compression: three trees in view, thirty per cent canopy, three hundred metres to public green space. Compression increases usability but also exposes the risks of universalisation, because local morphology, ecology, inequality and maintenance cannot be contained by a single rule. The paper is valuable precisely because it makes visible the moment at which evidence becomes governance. It connects urban forestry to standards, planning practice and public-health infrastructure, demonstrating that green knowledge becomes politically consequential when it acquires a spatial syntax capable of circulating outside specialist research.
